Are you using Skype yet?
September 30, 2006 // Hey folks.
The radio was up last night, but it was nothing worth recording, so there isn't one. However, thanks to "Unknown Player", he introduced me to two new features of Skype. One of them is a web-based program called "Skype High-Speed Conferencing". By default, Skype limits the amount of people in a conference to 5, including the host. But this new application, allows the host/moderator can have as many as 500. I tested it last night, and it is indeed a useful feature. The way it works is that the host/moderator starts a conference, and others can join by using a "Conference #" which is a pin number (usually between 6-8 digits). How do you join? Simple, click on the "Start a Free Conference" link or type this number in Skype: +99008275111. The automated system will ask you for the pin number, which you dial using the number pad. Don't worry, the conference/pin number will be posted in the event that I use this. After entering the conference number, you will automatically be connected to the conference.
Another interesting feature is Skypecast, which is basically a conference room that is open to the public. We tried it last night, and we talk to some very interesting people. Strangely enough, most of the people who joined and actually talked either didn't speak english, or spoke it very poorly. However, there was one female from Ecuador skisonic and I had a nice time talking to. :D
Unfortunately, there's no way to make it private other than creating a conference room as aforementioned. If you have a mic or headset, you DEFINATELY should check out Skype. I can emphasize it enough; it is the same quality as a phone call, most of the time better than calls using a cellphone. You don't have to worry about incurring fees, and about your battery dying in the middle of a conversation. Radio Shack carries headsets for only $10.
Remember, the longevity and success of the show depends on participation! As for Tonight's show, it's still up in the air. Just check out the forums tonight to see whether or not the radio is up.

The Return of AlphaISM Radio - UPDATED
October 17, 2007 // Yo everyone,
Well, you know I couldn't stay away too long. Yes, AlphaISM Radio is back, but it will be different than it has been over the past year or so. I will explain more on the show.
In other big news, Capcom announces Street Fighter 4, and the trailer looks sick! See it at live at Street Fighter World. I'm sure most of the community is excited about an all-new Street Fighter game, but also a bit concerned considering that it is a near-certainty that the game will be 3-D. Will Street Fighter 4 still retain the gameplay from its 2-D predecessors that made it one of the most successful franchises of all time? We'll talk about it!
Lastly, we will also be talking about Marvel vs Capcom 1's appearance on GGPO, and hopefully, we will have an interview with one of the best online players who goes by the name "MagnetoManiac".
The details of Friday's show are on the forum, of course. See you there!
PLEASE, PLEASE, support our petition for GGPO to be used for STHD's netcode by posting here.
Due to sound issues, this show was not recorded. I do apologize for the inconvenience.

Tuesday's Show - December 25, 2007 - UPDATED
November 7, 2007 // Yo everyone!
I'm sorry for the long absence and the sudden cancellation of the last show. I do intend on explaining myself, and I have lots to talk about on the upcoming show, so make sure you check out the details on the forum.
The show starts @ 4:00 pm PST sharp, so you better not be late! :D
P.S. I hope the sound will be alot better for this episode, I might need a few volunteers to help me sort it out prior to the start of the show. :P
Thanks to all who participated!! If you missed it, you can download the show here.
Also, I got an interesting message from "Morphus". For those who don't know, this "Morphus" character has been responsible for wreaking havoc on GGPO to the point that Ponder had to ban him. He's extremely arrogant and immature, and obviously he has a problem with what MagnetoManiac had to say about him on the show. Here's what he said, and MagnetoManiac's reply:
MORPHUS: I'm very dissapointed in you to allow such childish insults of an 15 year old child to insult me and bring me down in front of your audience.
Bunkei: it's a free country
MORPHUS: but all is well, get me a money match with magnetomaniac in nyc
MORPHUS: ill prove it for you.
Bunkei: hold
MORPHUS: k
MORPHUS: im willing to put up 50 bucks
MORPHUS: thats the max i can financially go.
MORPHUS: anyway i just wanted to give you my opinion, goodbye.
Bunkei: he accepts
No such nick/channel
LOL he leaves before accepting the money match. But yes, MagnetoManiac will graciously take hi.. err play him for $50. Here's his response:
KingFresh (8:36:51 PM): lol what
KingFresh (8:36:55 PM): he wont ever come out his house
KingFresh (8:37:02 PM): he knows he cant do shit with 6 buttons
KingFresh (8:37:05 PM): he needs his 3p wm inf lol
benn93z28 (8:37:10 PM): hahahahah
benn93z28 (8:37:16 PM): would you accept a money match from him?
KingFresh (8:37:27 PM): i rape him online all the time
KingFresh (8:37:31 PM): if he wants to play me he can come here
KingFresh (8:37:57 PM): morph isnt one to be taken seriously
***I altered his AIM name slightly, but the message is unaltered.
sooo ..
Where are you Morphus?

Saturday's Show - 02/23/2008 - UPDATED
February 23, 2008 // Yo everyone!
I know it's been a while, as I haven't had a show in almost 2 months, but in those 2 months a lot has happened in the fighting game world. We finally get a glimpse of SF4 in action. Not only that, SNK released it's first graphic overhaul of the KOF series in probably 50 years, and it looks HOT!! So hot, that some Capcom fans like myself prefer its style over that of SF4.
Then there's GGPO. To say that it's been a 'hit' is like saying Roger Clemens only took vitamins. Now, we've learned that GGPO, in the span of roughly 6-7 months have already had one MILLION matches played. That's pretty damn phenomenal. It is my hopes to get Ponder on the show again and ask him what he thinks of the success of GGPO, and more importantly, what is his vision of the future.
Lastly, although this isn't related to fighting games, the democratic race between Clinton and Obama has even made inroads in the gaming community. What did you think of the debate Thursday night? Do you think Obama will win Texas? More importantly, do you this man will actually get into the whitehouse? If so, do you think he will serve more than 2 months before he's assassinated?
As you can see, this should be one hell of a show. I'm sure there will be some SRK drama that I'm not aware of that will probably be addressed as well. Anyways, see you at 6 pm PST. Click here for the details of tonight's show. If you plan on being on the show, please let me know. You can contact me via AIM (benn93z28), Skype (Benji-man01), or IRC. For those who do not have an IRC client, you can use the webchat version.
THANKS!!!!

Sunday's Show - March 2, 2008 - UPDATED
March 2, 2008 // Yo everyone,
First, I'd like to thank everyone who participated during the last show (Keits, blaze, DNyce, etc). I thought another show would be pertinent as we will be covering several topics:
1. I will finally have Mukai on to explain what has happened with Mahai, and the words that were exchanged. Yes, it's SRK drama, but I still think it's fucked up what Mahai said.
2. We've got some strong feedback over Keit's comments regarding SF4, so we'll be revisiting that topic.
3. As most of you may know already, GGPO's server has been clobbered with A3 as the latest popular game added to the GGPO family. Even with the server on the fritz, it's causing "A3 fever" of sorts. So we will be discussing the in's and out's of the game (tiers, matchups, who's hot, who's not, etc).
4. Thanks to a good friend of mine, I had the joy of playing a specially compiled version of Kaillera from a guy that goes by the name "0746". I was very impressed; no discernible lag and no frameskipping. Better yet, it can be played full screen! I'm working on getting this gentleman on the show. If I succeed, I will let you guys know.
Wooo ... sounds like a full show don't ya think? If you don't know by now, the details of this show and the instructions on how to listen/participate are here.
See ya there!
The link to the NFBA and Kaillera client is here.
Download the stable Kaillera client here. (release date: February 11)
Download the new NFBA client here and install.
Download Mukai's video of his girl here.
Here's the the link to the second video.

Sunday's Show - March 23, 2008 - UPDATED
March 22, 2008 // Yo yo yo!
What's been good? I can't wait for tomorrow's show, and I hope you feel similar. I will be chillin with ShinBlanka, the tournament organizer/director for Final Round XI. The word on the street is that the tournament was absolutely filthy! There was a bit of everything .. money matches, major upsets, arguments, and of course, what would be a tourney be without a cameo of Atlanta's finest?
In other news, I'm trying to get Dark Geese on the radio so he can explain why has SNK plagiarized Guilty Gear with its own Clash system and wall stick. Well, that's not all bad, as people tend to copy the best. :-D
Lastly, I want to talk about the upcoming release of STHD. We recently have seen more screenshots and Sirlin has just released the changes for Sagat in HD Remix. Should be some fun stuff . . .
Of course, you must check out the Official AlphaISM Radio Thread for details. Participation is HIGHLY recommended!

Sunday's Show - May 11, 2008
May 10, 2008 // Yo playas!
It's been a while, but AlphaISM Radio is back after a month long hiatus. Obviously, that much time off the air means alot to talk about. From the latest on STHD and S4, to the new IronMan film, and to Bunkei's attempt in purchasing a car last Saturday. We'll talk about it all!!!
Pardon me if I sound like a broken record, but the entertainment value of the show is directly tied to participation. I know there are those of you out there that tune in regularly (thank you), but don't participate. Why???? I don't bite unless asked to. Do me a favor, download Skype, and buy a cheap microphone from the nearest Wal-mart or Target. Then join us by reading the directions in the AlphaISM Radio thread.
Whenever we have multiple people on the show, the show is just that much better. So see ya there!

Sunday's Show - May 25, 2008
May 25, 2008 // Howdy folks,
Tonight, we should have a very, very fun show. First on the agenda, is of course, TvC. We now have high-resolution pictures of the game, and it is beautiful! Is it possible we may see a playable demo of this at Evo Worlds? We'll talk about that!
Secondly, I plan on having a limited discussion regarding SSBB and the rules for including items or not. This seems to be a debate that has no end in sight.
Thirdly, we have yet another incident involving the infamous DP, but this time, it lands him in jail. We'll talk about some of the "thuginess" that has infected the gaming community and whether or not this has caused major tournaments like Evo to lose sponsors.
Next, my boy Jetay (Raishinken) will explain what has happened with his professional MMA career. Jetay thought that his biggest battles would inside the ring, but as it turns out, that's not the case. Hear Jetay as he describes the politics that goes into professional sports such as MMA. Apparently, it was so bad that it has caused him to reconsider furthering his career.
LOTS OF STUFF! BE THERE OR BE THERE!

Friday's Show - September, 19, 2008 (UPDATE)
September 18, 2008 // Yo everyone!
I have a special guest for Aism's next show, the great Shin-Rotendo. He's coming on to talk about the biggest news in the U.S. (well, besides the economy tanking), Mad Catz's new Street Fighter IV sticks.
Also, I'll be talking about the news of TvC being exclusive on the Wii, at least for the time being. I also hope to have a surprise guest to join us on the SFIV stick talk, but I can't quite drop the name yet, so you'll just have to tune in. :-)
Show's details can be read here.
We have an additional guest scheduled for Friday's show. Click the above link for details.
See ya on Friday!

What is (and isn't) AlphaISM Radio about?
November 17, 2008 // In the AlphaISM Radio Thread on SRK. A user named "pEe wEe" said the following regarding my last show:
Epic Fail!!!!!!!!!
Why the fuck I want to hear someone fuck some random bitch? wtf? All these new games coming out that you can talk about, but instead some audiio of this? GAY.
Waste.
I assume that Mr. Pee Wee is a new listener, and I have heard similar complaints in the past. So, I should really try to put this issue to rest by telling you what AlphaISM Radio is about.
If you notice, the name of the show is AlphaISM, not "Fighting Game Radio". The main focus of AlphaISM is to entertain its listeners. The second is to inform (as with most talk radios) about topics and events that might interest the listener.
To put it bluntly, AlphaISM Radio is really aimed for men (and a few women) between the ages of 18-43 (I chose 43, because that's the age of our dear Mike Watson, though he continually denies it). I talk about topics that I think would interest my listeners. Many of those topics do revolve around games. However, gaming topics do not lend themselves to long discussions.
For instance, unless there's an upcoming tournament or some other event, what's there to be said about Marvel vs Capcom 2? or Capcom vs SNK 2? The merits and demerits of the aforementioned games have been discussed to death, as well as the tiers, strategies, etc. I doubt the radio's listeners would be interested in hearing how to play with Cable in MvC 2. However, I could be wrong, which is why I need feedback on my shows.
Mr. Pee Wee is correct that there are a slew of new fighters coming out, but that's just it ... coming out. None of the games that we're looking forward to are in the hands of the masses yet. SF4/STHD was presented at the Street Fighter Club, which the radio show covered extensively. I've also had Justin come on the show and talk about his experiences with BlazBlue and TvC from Evolution.
Obviously, as these games come out to the masses, the radio show will become more fighter-centric as we attempt to learn these games, especially in view of them being present at Evolution '09. However, no one talks about games 100% of the time. I like to think that AlphaISM Radio, and the randomness of it, is like being at a get-together. We discuss gaming, but we also delve into other topics that interest us.
Lastly, I love comedy, and that is reflected in the show. My purpose certainly is not to offend any listener. The show featuring D'Nyce's 'intimate' encounter with his girlfriend is meant for comedic purposes. It is not meant to be taken seriously. If there's one thought I really need to impress on new listeners, is that the show is very much light-hearted. I do this show to have a good time, and to meet new people and learn about new things.
At first, I did try to change the direction of the show, but then I realize that the random moments have defined the show over the past 2 years have made perhaps hundreds of listeners laugh til the cry (or otherwise put them in a good mood). I have had a few told me that they even listen to these shows while at work! I'm gratified by the compliments, and I hope that there's more goodness to come....
P.S. Feel free to comment on this blog, and I will respond. Just keep it respectful.
